Bikini Hair Removal

Bikini hair removal is on the rise. There are several methods for removal of unwanted hair from the bikini area. Procedures include shaving, waxing, and cream depilatories. Each technique ranges in expense, comfort, ease and side effects.

Shaving

The most common way to groom the bikini area is shaving. The best time to shave is after a hot shower or bath, when pores are open. Contrary to popular belief, the pubic hair should be shaved with the grain. Shaving against the grain can cause hair to be pulled, skin to become irritated and rashes may develop.

Depending on the individual, new growth may appear one to three days after shaving. Ingrown hairs are a common complication with shaving. To remove an ingrown hair, apply hot compresses to the region. After showering, when the pore is open, gently pull the surrounding skin and pluck the hair with sterilized tweezers. Apply an astringent or rubbing alcohol to the region to avoid infection.

Waxing

Waxing removes hair from the root. Depending on the product, wax may be heated or used at room temperature. An applicator and thin strips of cloth are used in conjunction with the sticky compound. Waxing can be painful, but the long lasting effect makes this a popular technique.

Exfoliate the skin two days after waxing to prevent ingrown hairs. Never wax the pubic area if pregnant or menstruating. Avoid tanning for at least two days after treatment. Use sunscreen on the area to prevent skin damage. Be careful to avoid pulling waxed strips from the area more than once. Bruising of the skin may result from overworking this technique. Waxing is generally effective for up to six weeks.

Cream Depilatories

Depilatories remove hair by utilizing alkaline based products applied to the area. The hair component is broken down and easily wiped away. Hair is not removed from the root with this method. Hair removal results from depilatories generally last one to two weeks. The best time to use a depilatory is five to ten minutes before showering.

Apply the cream to the area, rinse or gently wipe with a damp wash cloth. An astringent and soothing balm should be applied to the area to prevent irritation and rash. Side effects of using this method may include skin irritation, rash, and peeling of skin.

All three techniques are reasonably priced and readily available. Time, comfort and desired outcome are personal choices when choosing the procedure best suited for the consumer. Good luck with your bikini hair removal!
