Workouts For A Healthy Heart



Workouts are important for the heart. Your heart ranks in the top 2 on the body scale. Both the brain and your heart can arguably be called #1. Either way the importance of keeping your heart healthy is obvious. In recent years the effects of too much cholesterol, not enough exercise and poor eating habits and the negative effect these things can have on your heart health has come to light. Let’s talk about some ways of getting a healthy heart.

Cardio Is One Of The Best Ways To Maintain A Healthy Heart

Cardio work is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy heart. The goal when performing a cardio workout is to slowly elevate your heart rate and then keep it there for an extended period of time. There are some times when you also may want to perform interval cardiovascular training. Normally interval training is for someone who is working on losing weight and not as much for maintenance cardio work.

Many times when people think about cardio they think about treadmills and stationary bicycles. Those are valid choices and may work well for some. Many people join gyms but even more people join a gym with the best intentions and never actually use it to work out. Meanwhile their hearts remain unfit. Doing cardio at home is simple and effective and they don’t need to take large amounts of time. Most cardio work can be done with very little equipment and therefore very little cost. Here are some suggestions:

• Jump rope: Using a jump rope is a great way to elevate your heart rate and then maintain for a prolonged period of time. Start out slow and work your way up. If you have knee problems this is probably not the best choice for you.

• Bicycling: This is a gentle exercise for those with ankle or knee problems. Running: Make sure that you get good shoes with adequate support.

• Cardio DVD: There are many DVDs available now with cardio routines. There is something for everyone when it comes to cardio DVDs. There are dance workouts, kickboxing, plyometrics and aerobics all available on DVDs by many different instructors. You may want to choose a few and mix it up a bit.

• Wii: You can even go as far as using your Wii for cardio exercise. There are games that do elevate your heart rate.

Make sure that to perform all exercises long enough to keep a steady elevated heart rate for about 20 minutes. It is also very important to stretch before and after every cardio workout. This keeps muscles loose and limber and keeps you from getting injured.
